Digital SLR Short Competition Winners Announced
Launceston, 28th November 2011 – Last Friday night at the MyState BOFA Devil Awards winners were announced for the Digital SLR Short Film Competition at a star studded affair judged by visiting industry professionals, Rowan Woods, Gregor Jordan and Bradley Patrick. The MyState Student Film Festival winner was also recognised amongst the presence of professionals, emerging talent and the Launceston community.
MyState BOFA Film Festival Artistic Director Bradley Patrick said contestants, finalists, celebrities and film lovers feasted on Tasmania’s abundance of fresh produce, and sipped on fine wine while watching the award winning films on a 10m by 10m outdoor screen.

Best Tasmanian Short Film:
‘Peekaboo’, Dir. Damien Power, Australia, 10 min
On the train home from the Easter Show, an over-tired little girl is hyped-up by a stranger, who plays a game of ‘peekaboo’ with her, until her mother begins to feel disturbed by the interest he’s showing. A short time later, the girl disappears in a car park and her desperate mother searches. A glimpse of the man from the train fires her imagination, with devastating consequences.

Best International Short Film:
‘Sharfik’, Dir. Karina Gazizova, USA, 14 min
A family living during the period of World War II. Will the most unbearable siege suck the last drop of life out of this once warm and loving family? How does war change the people we need the most?

Best Youth Short Film:
‘Abbie’ Dir. Erin Good, Australia, 8 min. Erin Good from Sydney was in attendance to accept her award.
In a dystopian corporate world idealistic Abbie embarks on the first day of her new job with nervous delight. Her excitement however, is quickly thwarted by the cold intolerance of The Boss and a failed attempt to make friends. The rigid office eventually proves too much even for the indomitable Abbie, but friendships can be formed in unexpected places.

Of the many entries received from America, the United Kingdom and all across Australia the following 15 were shortlisted.
